This year marked the 20th anniversary of Girls & Guys Night Out, one of Denver's most popular events, with its winning tradition of bringing together corporate sponsors, friends and community leaders for an evening of laughter and inspiration. During its 20-year history, Girls & Guys Night Out (formerly Girls Night Out) has raised over $2,500,000 to support Girls Incorporated of Metro Denver's mission to help girls become strong, smart, and bold.
Over $500,000 was raised on November 11th for Girls Inc. of Metro Denver and registration was just over 1000 people! We are so excited to have had such a wonderful turnout and so much raised for our mission.
This year we were thrilled to have past scholarship winners Marika Krause and Sharoia (JoJo) Taylor at the event to share the impact Girls Inc. has had on their lives. Asha Blake and Ernie Bjorkman, the CW2 News Evening Anchors, emceed for the night. As for our main entertainment, we had Emmy-award winning comedian Dana Carvey!
The evening began with a cocktail reception and a fun Tiffany & Co. raffle at 6 p.m. on Saturday November 11, 2006. The Hyatt Regency Convention Center was beautiful and provided excellent service and wonderful food. A family-style dinner of Port Braised Beef Short Ribs was served and, of course our signature chocolate was spread out on each table.
Girls Inc. is especially grateful to Girls & Guys Night Out 2006 Chairs Nanette Fishman and Susan Blake-Smith; Corporate Co-Chairs Barbara Baumann and Nancy Shea; as well as our Honorary Chairs John and Bobbi Jo Beeble and Dick Saunders. We also want to acknowledge the vision of Jan Cortez, who started this whole thing in 1986 as the very first Girls Night Out chairwoman!
