APRIL 15, 2015 – WEST COLFAX – Girls Inc. of Metro Denver (GIMD) will honor local partners and volunteers at the Summer Celebration Scholarship & Award Luncheon on Friday, June 12, 2015. GIMD will be recognizing the following:
Corporate Partner of the Year: Liberty Media
Community Partner of the Year: Denver Public Library
Youth Program Volunteer of the Year: Chis Homolac
Teen Program Volunteer of the Year: Rebecca Brubaker
"We are pleased to honor and celebrate these great partners and volunteers at this year's Summer Celebration," Sonya Ulibarri, President and CEO of Girls Inc. of Metro Denver. "We would not be able to achieve all that we do and make a difference in the lives of girls in the Denver Metro area without these champions."
The Corporate Partner of the Year, Liberty Media, has been a long-time supporter of GIMD and joins past recipients CoBank, Comcast, and Lockheed Martin in this honor. The Denver Public Library will be recognized as Community Partner of the Year for their incredible support in launching and operating the Strong, Smart & Bold Coffee Cart at the new Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales Branch Library.
Chris Homolac is an employee at Lockheed Martin and has been volunteering at GIMD for five years, generously giving hours of his time! Mr. Homolac began as a Program Assistant Volunteer, assisting instructors who facilitated First Lego League curriculum in 2010 to girls in first through fifth grade. He has continued to be of service since then, working with our youngest girls in our science and technology courses. Mr. Homolac is also responsible for recruiting and advocating for other Lockheed Martin volunteers for GIMD.
Teen Program Volunteer of the Year Rebecca Brubaker has been volunteering with GIMD since the fall of 2013, giving 650 hours of tutoring help to Middle School girls in grades 6-9. Ms. Brubaker creates tutoring agendas for the girls and works hard to encourage girls to achieve their full potential.
GIMD is also thrilled to award a total of $55,000 to the eight recipients of the 2015 Helen M. McLoraine and Rose Forbes Stephens Scholarships at the luncheon.
