| Denver, CO - The Denver Nuggets Community Fund, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, will award $235,000 to 8 non-profits providing diverse recreational programs at Pepsi Center on January 8th during the Nuggets game against the Milwaukee Bucks.
"We deeply appreciate the partnership of the McCormick Tribune Foundation for the past 14 years. Through their support, we have been able to grant over $24 million to hundreds of Colorado non-profit agencies which offer programs and services to families and children in need," said Executive Vice President Paul Andrews.- Breckenridge Outdoor Education Program. Expands the potential of people with disabilities and special needs through meaningful, educational and inspiring outdoor experiences by learning new skills, experiencing the great outdoors and improving health and self-confidence. The grant supports the scholarship program.
- Colorado HAWKS (Hard at Work Kids). The program offers at-risk youth the opportunity to achieve higher education through sports scholarships by offering mentoring, skills-building, tutoring, role models and basketball programs.
- Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center. Promotes the physical, psychological and social well-being of people with disabilities through equine assisted services. The grant supports the basic needs scholarship program and Mini-Trooper program which brings the joy of equine visits to long-term care facilities, hospice programs, assisted-living homes, day and residential treatment centers and special education programs.
- Denver Public Schools/Denver Prep League. To support the after-school sports program in 22 DPS Middle Schools. The academically-based program provides athletic competition, teamwork and sportsmanship lessons in 10 sports for both boys and girls.
- Denver Rolling Nuggets. To provide year-round sports and fitness programs for people with disabilities. Through the Rolling Nuggets program, people with disabilities increase their physical and psychological health as well as their motivation and self esteem.
- Girls Inc. To inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. The grant supports center-based programs for at-risk girls, ages 6-11 years, enabling girls to succeed by building self-esteem, take healthy risks, enhance academic skills and explore non-traditional careers.
- Rocky Mountain Children's Choir. Through the universal language of music, children learn an appreciation of the arts and experience musical excellence in a multicultural environment. The grant supports scholarships for children in the program.
- YMCA Jr. Nuggets Program. To promote physical activity and lifelong wellness through a skills-based sports program that focuses on values and encourages the development of a healthy spirit, mind and body for all children. Over 10,000 boys and girls, ages 3-17 years, participate in the program throughout the year.
The Denver Nuggets Community Fund (DNCF) supports local and statewide, non-profit organizations that serve the needs of low-income children and families. Funds raised by the DNCF are matched by the McCormick Tribune Foundation at a significant percentage, increasing the dollar amount available to local worthwhile agencies and their community programs. A portion of grants from the Denver Nuggets Community fund are made via partnership with the Denver Active 20-30 Children's Foundation, which is dedicated to contributing to the betterment and welfare of the children in the local community. |
| Established in 1983, Girls Inc. of Metro Denver is an affiliate of Girls Incorporated, a national non-profit youth organization working to advance the rights of girls and women and to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold TM.
