Girls Inc. of Metro Denver (GIMD) is launching its comprehensive STEM program called Eureka! on Monday, June 5, 2017 at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver). The program is in its second year and has enrolled 61 girls (30 returning and 31 new) into this 5-year program that will see them through high school graduation. The themes of the 2017 Eureka! Summer program are: "Building a Great City" (1st year participants) and "Engineering the Future" (2nd year students). In addition to MSU Denver, major partners include: CH2M, Xcel Energy, Comcast, Lockheed Martin, PCL Construction, Leprino Foods, XTO Energy, RK Mechanical and Galvanize.
The Eureka! program is geared toward middle schools girls who are excited about math, science, engineering and technology. During the four week summer program, Eureka! participants, or Eurekans, will gain leadership skills, participate in weekly field trips, interact with STEM professionals and learn on a college campus. There will be daily hands-on activities that explore topics in mechanical engineering, renewable energy, computer science, food systems, architecture/planning, biomedical engineering, and aerospace.
