Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions "With encouragement from me, the girls have had no trouble fulfilling their right to express themselves with originality, and we've told each one of them that her story is important and should be written down. Hopefully this will inspire some of them to continue writing in the future and raise their self-esteem. I believe that by helping the girls to express themselves during my volunteer hours I have very directly supported the Girls Inc. mission of inspiring girls to be strong, smart and bold." -Kristin McIntosh, Creative Writing Facilitator
How Do I Become A Volunteer At Girls Inc. of Metro Denver (GIMD)?All potential volunteers must complete the following steps before beginning their volunteer service at GIMD:
Apply: Click here to apply online, or call us and we will send you a hard copy of the application.
Interview: If your availability and qualifications meet our needs, we will call you for an interview. This is our chance to learn more about you and find out a placement that would be best for you.
Background Check: All 18+ applicants must complete a criminal background check. We ask applicants to contribute $10-$20 to offset the fee of processing your background check.
Note: Teen volunteers (17 years and younger) are not required to complete a background check, however we do ask you to complete a Teen Membership application that requires parent/guardian signatures
Orientation & Training: All potential volunteers must attend a 2-day orientation and training before they begin volunteering. Becoming a volunteer at GIMD is dependent on completion of Orientation and Training.
What Do Volunteers Do At GIMD?We use volunteers at all levels of our organization. The most common volunteer positions are program assistants (helping in classrooms), tutors, and administrative assistants.
