| Why We Love Elisabeth Kwak-Hefferan:
Elisabeth has been a Teen Center Program Assistant on Mondays and Wednesdays since September 2010. She has assisted Lizzeth in many classes including Mi Avenida and Let's Talk About Sex. "Elisabeth always has a smile on her face. She comes in with enthusiasm, always wanting to push the teens. What she does best is that she finds the right words to help teens understand various topics, and help them reflect on their experiences. She jumps in to aid teens with questions, and is very open in answering them. In addition, she works hard to prepare for lessons she will teach, and gets the teens going. She wholeheartedly enjoys working with the teens. Her personality is easy going, and the teens enjoy being around her. She is also very knowledgeable about many topics, and if she does not have the answer, she will seek it out. What I most enjoy about working with her, is that she usually comes in with questions and ideas for discussing a topic in class. This shows enthusiasm, and concern for improving the lives of our teens. Lastly, she is extremely committed, and has not let me or the girls down. She is poised and eloquent, and is a great role model for the teens." Elisabeth, thank you for all you do!!
Who's The STRONGest Person You Know: That's going to have to be a tie between my mom and dad. Both handle the surprises life throws their way--including two bouts with cancer--with grace and humor. I have never doubted that they'll get through anything, and bring my brother and I with them.
What's The SMARTest Thing You Have Ever Heard: Ooh, that's tough. One that's stuck with me for years is a quote from "It's Alright Ma (Only Bleeding)," a Bob Dylan song. It's: "...keep it in your mind and not forget/that it is not he or she or them or it/that you belong to." It reminds me that there will always be people who want you to be a certain way, but you've gotta remember that you belong to you alone, and you know what's best for you.
What's The BOLDest Thing You Have Ever Done: Leaving friends, family, and familiarity behind to move to Colorado, where I didn't know a soul, to start my dream job. There were some lonely nights in there, but I stuck through it and am a stronger, more capable person for it.
